A Piece of the Lone Star State in Clifton

Cincinnati, weirdly enough, contains a strikingly important part of the history of… Texas.. Replicas of cannons known as the twin sisters came along with the “Lone Star Pavilion” (pictured above), built in 1974 by a group called the “Sons of the Republic of Texas.” The real cannons were used to defeat Santa Anna in 1836 by Sam Houston’s army, marking a turning point in making Texas a part of the United States. Along with being a successful general, Houston was a notable abolitionist, and when Texas seceded from the union he was forced out of office for not siding with the Confederates.
