Veterans Park’s M60A3 Patton

Designed by Chrysler in 1959, based on their older M48 medium tank design. It was a tank of its time. It utilized conventional casted steel armor, a powerful air-cooled diesel engine and a state of the art L7 Royal Ordinance 105mm gun made in the United Kingdom. The M60 spawned many variants that still serve in the Army today.

This M60A3 (designated as HQ66) started life as an M60A1 in 1962 then received its A3 upgrades in the 70’s and 80’s. HQ66 served during Vietnam, Somalia and Desert Storm with the Army’s 174th Armored Regiment until it was retired on May 26, 1997.
