1922 Industrial Survey of Daniel L. Frost

"Daniel attended school at Haskell Institute. His father lived right at Pryor village and worked about the store. He was not running any farm of his own; hence, the boys did not have a regular place to get work when they came back from school. Daniel has worked around for wages at anything he could get to do, sometimes for the sheep men, sometimes in the store, and on the road when we were doing road work. he is a good worker when working for wages. He married a girl practically white, who is a member of the tribe and who seems to be a very worthy young woman. Recently he has gone out on Hay Creek away from other Indian settlements, and is showing some inclination to improve his allotment and settle down permanently to farm. He has some very good land which they hope to be able to irrigate in part, in conjunction with his brother, Hartford. So far, they have not done much, but the fact that they have withdrawn from their family and gone out and started on their land, is encouraging, and we hope they will stay with it and make a farm. There is a white man who owns some land on the same creek, just a short distance above them, who has made money farming there and running a few cattle and they have his example, and their opportunity is just as good and better than his, for the reason that they do not have to pay taxes on the land."
