1922 Industrial Survey of Edward Big Medicine

"This boy lives with his father, Big Medicine, who has been Chief of Police at the Agency for many years. His home seems to be a sort of stopping place and harbor for everybody who comes this way, and they feed a great many visitors, as is always the case with an Indian living near the Agency. Edward's wife has some very good land of her own between the Agency and Hardin, where we now plan to build them a house with their money, where they will move and live to themselves next spring. We hope to get them to farm alone and separate and have a little more encouragement, as it has not been very encouraging for either Edward or his wife to work hard to take care of star boarders. Big Medicine himself does not farm, as he is old and has his police duties and dignity to maintain."
