1922 Industrial Survey of Felix Bear Cloud

"Felix is using some inherited land belonging to his wife's family. There is no house on it. He lives in a cabin near the river where it is somewhat protected from the storms. The land is particularly adapted to wild hay, and he should have had a big crop had he watered it and there was no reason why he should not have watered it except the indifference. Instead of having some 6 ton of hay, he should have had 60 ton. His own land is on the Little Horn River and is leased. I talked to him about going on his own land, as the present lease is just expiring. He preferred to live up there and work this family land rather than to live on his own, and lease his own land, which may be all right. We cannot hope to encourage him in improving his home very much on inherited land. He has rather a poor cabin, rather poorly furnished and kept. Carl Leider, his wife's son, and his wife make their home with them. They have some 50 cattle belonging to the Leider Estate and young Carl, Jr., has recently bought some more. He does very little in helping to farm. He does give a little attention to these cattle. With the start they have, these cattle, properly taken care of, would be a very material asset to the estate and the location on the Big Horn is much better for handling these cattle than it would be on his own land on the Little Horn River, owing to the proximity of the range."
