1922 Industrial Survey of Henry Dewey Lande

"Dewey Lande's father was a white man. He was a very good farmer and stockman and kept his large family together and supported them. They did not have much farming land, but gave most of their attention to the cattle. The mother was a member of the tribe, but looks to have very little Indian blood. The records show her to be 1/2. His father and mother were separated several years ago and the father took care of the children as best he could. The mother had a Fee Patent for her land and may still own it. Dewey has the Fee Patent for his land. I think he still owns it. There are 4 or 5 minor children, one or two of the other boys being nearly grown. They have worked with Dewey some in the summer. They know how to work very well and are very good workers, but they really need someone to keep them at it. They have that trait common to Indians, to spend their money before they get it. His wife is a white woman and she has not seemed to like living on a remote ranch. Hence, they stay there but little of the time. At present, they are living in Billings, but just how they are living, I do not know. They have but limited hay land. Their father had a very nice bunch of cattle, but they seem to have about disappeared."
