1922 Industrial Survey of Holds the Enemy

"Holds the Enemy himself does not work much. The land where he lives is good farm land with the adjacent fields of the same kind producing big crops. His son, Al, is one of the good workers on the reservation. He farms very well and is always on the lookout for a chance to work his team or do freighting to earn some money. They have a very poor house. They have been trying to arrange to have a better house put on the place, but so far without success. It is to be regretted that the son, Al, has not established a home for himself, as it is impossible for his wife to take an interest in keeping a decent home with this large family in very small, indifferent quarters. They could do and should do very much better, but the young man is entitled to some sympathy because he probably is reluctant to work hard to support sundry other members of the family in idleness. Hence, we hope to see the time soon when he will have a home of his own."
