Summary:
In 1922, the Crow Indian Agent surveyed 244 Crow properties, including the home of Joe Child in the Mouth.Description:
Caution: This survey transcription contains prejudiced descriptions and may contain violent language.
Transcription:
"His land is not firstclass. The water for irrigation there is not dependable, but some of the land could be dry farmed successfully most years. He lives a part of the time in the small house on his deceased father's land, where there is good water for domestic purposes all the time. His own house has no water except for the short time there is water in the ditch. He has no well and the creek is remote. He does not work much. He talks good English and is a sort of instructor or assistant in the Catholic Church. He seems to be proud of the fact that he is a sort of preacher, as he says, but if he doesn't preach any more industriously and effectively than he farms, I fear that he is not very successful."
