1922 Industrial Survey of John Morrison

"This man has some education. His wife is brighter than the average Indian woman. They have been farming fairly well. Last year one of the first oil wells was put down on their land and they had visions of untold wealth. They did receive a few hundred dollars for oil sold to other drilling outfits. They bought an automobile. They stayed in town. They bought better clothes than they could afford and really, for a time, cut quite a wide swath. At present, they are not selling any oil from their well. It is not positive that they ever will again. They did not farm at all this year. They lived around with their friends and helped put up a little hay, but did practically nothing. It is to be hoped that they will get sufficiently hungry this winter to induce them to farm some next year. They keep their children in school quite regularly."
