Summary:
In 1922, the Crow Indian Agent surveyed 244 Crow properties, including the home of Knows the Ground.Description:
Caution: This survey transcription contains prejudiced descriptions and may contain violent language.
Transcription:
"This man is said to be unable to work very much. He was not at home when I visited his place, but I have been there before. He lives a long distance from any Indian neighbors, has a little spring along the foot of the mountains. He has a good little house, very well furnished and very well kept. There is room for a big imporvement in his place, as the spring runs sufficient water that, if conserved and directed upon the land, would irrigate 2 or 3 acres of garden and potatoes, which would produce enough to support his small family for the year.
He has good grass about the place and could raise wheat without irrigation. I believe proper effort and encouragement on the part of the Farmer might induce him to put in this small irrigation ditch from the spring.
We seldom see this man. He seems to be well behaved and able to live from his income and a limited amount of work. His excellent water and possibility of irrigating his garden, with the grass and place for cow and chicken, entirely to himself, should make almost an ideal farm home with limited acreage cultivated, but sufficient produce to almost support him."
