"After long persuasion the farmer goe them to put in this winter wheat which looks very well and promises to make a big crop. Louis take pride in showing a big variety of vegetable and all the unusual vegetables that he can hear about. It is not a great economical success. He does seem to know how to grow a garden. They have some other good land which was leased, but so far has not been put in cultivation, If the leasee is not going to cultivate it, I want to get it back for the family as they have plenty of time to use it. They have bedsteads, tables, sewing machines, range, a good many pictures on the wall, enough to furnish a small house fairly well, but their house is crowded and too many visitors, and not kept in very good order. It is possible that she was not taught at Carlisle just how to keep such a house neatly with so many people to live in it."
