1922 Industrial Survey of Mike Blue Moccasin

"This man was interested with his brother in some estates, including sum very good land. Last year, we partitioned this land in order that he might have title to a good place to build himself a home. We got the partition through and loaned him the money from reimbursable funds to build himself a home. He has the house built, as will be seen in the photograph. It is a very good house. It does not appear that he has lived in it at all this summer. He claims to have lived in it last winter. He is living with Joe Gun, where there are several families in limited quarters. He has some alfalfa that was past ripe. As far as I could learn, he was doing very little work. He has enough of the very best land in the valley to make him an excellent farm, with constant good water and a very good chance to irrigate part of it. I could not discover any good reason why he should not be at home. He claimed his wife was sick and needed to stay with this other family. That is more of an excuse than a reason. Probably if he gets sufficiently hungry next winter, he will do better farming next summer."
