1922 Industrial Survey of Old Dwarf

"This land is under the Lost Creek ditch, and the supply of water is not dependable. If there was adequate water he could irrigate practically all of his land. I found him at home, sitting in the shade of the tent. His alfalfa needed cutting, his fences needed repair, he has no stable, but he was enjoying leisure. He said that he expected to cut his alfalfa the following day, but I could not quite get from him just why he did not cut it that day or the day before or the week before. His house is fairly well kept and furnished. They camp down on Pryor Creek though the winter. They can hardly be blamed for this, for they have no water near their place and they want to have their adopted son in school. They can do much better on their land if they would irrigate early, while the water is more plentiful and before the general urgent demand for water comes on. He could do and should do very much better than he does. Old Dwarf is Judge of our Indian Court, which may be the reason that he was so leisurely and dignified."
