Summary:
In 1922, the Crow Indian Agent surveyed 244 Crow properties, including the home of Richard Wallace.Description:

Transcription:
"Wallace is regarded as one of the best business Indians on the Reservation. He has two very good places, well improved. He has had a nice number of cattle, ranging from 100 to 200 head, which are well taken care of. I do not know just how much he may own on them, but his credit has been good at the bank for a few hundred dollars. He has not farmed extensively, his principal interest being cattle and hay and the keeping of his pasture for winter use.
He has some of his land rented for farming purposes. He has this year about 200 ton of hay and he threshed about 500 bu. of wheat.
His houses are both very well furnished and kept. He usually lives on Lodgegrass Creek, but part of the summer and farming season, he lives on Soap Creek. He is the one Indian who probably has the legitimate right to have an automobile, as he looks after both places somewhat and has cattle and his business, even moderately handled, would justify his having a car.
With the opportunity he has had, he should be a rice man, but he just about holds his own financially. Of course, he has had to take the losses the last few years as all cattle men have suffered."
