"In addition to his own allotment, he is using some inherited land. He is a very indifferent farmer. He has no wife. Just he and the boy live there alone and at present they are living in a poor old cabin, while a Cree Indian, who is working in the neighborhood, is living in his better house, which is a very fair cabin. His outfit of implements is inadequate. He needs a well and additional furniture for his house, but our observation had been that not many of the single men, either widowers or bachelors, do very well in their farming. They either get lonesome or they get tired of their own cooking and wander around a good deal. I promised to try to help him get a wife, but 2 or 3 suggestions I made did not meet with his approval, so I many not be able to supply that need."
