"These brothers live together and work in partnership. Jasper has never been married and makes his home with his mother and brother. One of the striking merits of this family is that they went on to their allotments at considerable distance from any other Indian settlements. This is unusual. They stay there all the time. It is probably 12 or 15 miles to the nearest other Indian house. They have one child of school age and no school facilities near. She has been attending the Mission School and her grandmother took her and camped near the school. She really should be sent to some non-reservation boarding school, as she has not proper access to the public school. This may be arranged for next year. They built their house and barn themselves. While they are not fine, they are fair and they hope to improve them as they have the means. Their farming is limited. They make a large garden and put up considerable hay, but they are not going to have much to sell for their winter's support, but they will doubtless take their teams and work in the wheat field during threshing to earn some money. They have considerable ground that could be farmed to advantage and they hope to get some of it broken up this fall. They are lacking in application and industry, but the fact that they have gone to this place and stayed away from the rest of the Indians encourages us to hope for improvement in the matter for their industry."
