1922 Industrial Survey of Bird Above

"Bird Above has had two grown sons living with him. One of them recently married to a Shosoni girl and is not on the Shoshoni Reservation. They are making a fair start at farming this year, and I feel hopeful that there may be an improvement. They bought a Fordson tractor and the son Eric has cultivated a good deal of the ground. It may be that with this machine he will not get tired so soon as he would with a team as he can go faster and do about twice the amount of work. Bird Above lives in a tent near his stable and his son and wife live in the house. This is a much better arrangement than for the two families to live together. Two Indian families living in the same house get along just the same as two white families living in the same house."
