1922 Industrial Survey of Coyote Runs

"This man lives rather remote from most of the Indians. He lives down Pryor Creek some 25 miles below the Agency and several miles from the nearest Indian settlement. This is commendable if he would only stay at home. He visits a good deal, but he does keep his place in fair condition and works some. When I visited his place, he was away, probably had done to the mountains after berries. I was by there twice, but did not find him at home. The data was received mostly from reports away from his place. It's hard to get an Indian to live clear away from the neighborhood of other Indians. They are peculiarly social beings, and we are probably expecting too much when we request them to live so far away as this man's place is. Outside of his tendency to visit, he is really a very good Indian farmer. This past year he lost most of his crop from the invasion of grasshoppers. However, had he been at home, he could doubtless have saved his garden and potatoes by using poison."
