Student Privacy

Student educational records are protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This can be extended to student-produced scholarship in the classroom. Traditionally student final projects are handed into the professor, graded, and then kept for one year to return to the student if they ask. Digital projects provide a different opportunity for student work by extending the life of the work beyond the recycle bin.

If they so choose, students can include the digital scholarship they produce on their résumés and leverage their new skills on the job market.

If students would rather keep their work private or operate under a nom de plume, they are within their rights to do so.

If you would prefer to keep your work private, please speak directly with your professor. You will not be penalized. You will, however, still need to learn the technological skills that undergird the assignment. Please see these instructions about the different categories of publication and visibility.
