Cumberland River

The Cumberland River in northern Tennessee

The Cumberland River is a major river in the Southern United States of America. It flows through Southern Kentucky and Central Tennessee, and is approximately 700 miles long. Cumberland River is an incredibly important waterway, it connects Kentucky and Northern Tennessee to the heart of Nashville and is used as a mode of transportation for people and goods and supplies water to that area.

Originally, the river was called “Wasioto” by the Shawnee Native American tribe almost 10,000 years ago. Today, many people still refer to the body of water as The Shawnee River.
