The History Behind the Name

The infamous Nippert Stadium had a pretty sorrowful way of receiving its name. The stadium received its name because of a young man who gave his life to a sport he loved. James Gamble Nippert was an ignored law student playing football at UC. Nippert was cut playing football in one of the biggest rivalry games UC vs. Miami University Due to it being the 1920’s medicine was not up to par as present day, and Nipper eventually ended up passing away due to Septicemia. After a 250,000-family donation it had been called Nippert stadium in memorial since.
