Past to Present

This Saturday as I was looking around Nippert Stadium I felt compelled to take this picture after seeing the 200 bicentennial logo on the field. Afterwards I found the picture you see on the bottom left. This picture was taken in 1937, it has the same approximate view from where I was. The difference that 81 years has made is incredible.

The only remaining structure from 1937 is the Field house on the south end of the stadium. The rest of the area surrounding the stadium has been renovated and remodeled countless times as the University has expanded. If you go to the south end of the stadium, engraved into the stadium wall is a quote and dedication of the Stadium. James Gamble Nippert was a law student and football player. He suffered a leg injury that became infected and he died later that year. In 1924 the monument was built in his remembrance and hence the name Nippert stadium came to be.
