Built in 1802, this log cabin marks the first post office in Franklin, Ohio and was one of the first four in Warren County. It is also the oldest known standing structure in Franklin and the oldest surviving post office in the state. In 1805, President Thomas Jefferson appointed John Schenck, brother of William C. Schenck, the founder of Franklin, as postmaster. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. It’s neat to know that there is such a significant and accessible piece of history right in my town’s downtown.
