While the YMCA worked with UC students since 1888, this $400,000 building did not open until March 8th, 1930. The massive donation from the Gamble family was graciously received by the students who were hoping for a building to fit the rapidly growing activities through the YMCA. People described the gothic building as “architecturally perfect in every detail”, with a warm and welcoming interior.
While it was open on campus it was extremely popular and satisfied the students demand for a space to house all their extracurricular activities. The UC walking tour website does not specify the reason for it’s closing.
