Around the World in One Church

After humble origins in 1911, St. Martin of Tours Catholic parish in Cheviot, Ohio quickly grew, necessitating the creation of a larger church after just a decade. In 1921, the parish broke ground on the new, Romanesque-style church building, whose lofty belltowers and columned façade finished construction in 1923 and still dominate the Cheviot skyline today.

Yet despite its location in a sleepy Cincinnati suburb, the church’s architectural details reveal remarkable geographic reach: Siena marble and German stained glass decorate the interior, while the belltowers and the main columns draw inspiration from early Roman churches.
