Cincinnati Zoo

In the back corner of the park there is a metal statue of a pigeon like bird and it is a representation of the last living passenger pigeon “Martha.” Martha was the last living female and last of her species. She lived out the rest of her days in the Zoo. The statue is made of bronze and has a plaque underneath it on a piece of granite rock that gives a description of why the stature and the subsequent small building behind the statue was built and donated.

This is the inscription that is on the bronze plaque. This memorial sponsored by the Langdon Club, is dedicated to "Martha", September first, nineteen fourteen, the last passenger pigeon and "inca", February twenty first, nineteen eighteen the last known Carolina parquet and all extinct species. This building was home to "martha" and "Inca" for many years until their deaths. IT IS the hope of the Langdon Club that people who visit the memorial will work toward the preservation of all the world's fauna.
