The Norris Lake Dam

This is the Norris Dam, built in 1936 it was used for flood control and it was the first hydroelectric dam built in Tennessee by the TVA. It was originally called Cove Creek but changed to be named after the founder of the TVA George Norris. In the process of building this lake, 2,899 families had to be relocated along with over 5,000 graves. It cost 32 million dollars and was 65-foot-high, 1,860-foot-long dam. In the end, this brought electricity to rural Tennessee Valley. There is also a 840 page book about this project called The Norris Project.
