Spring Grove Champion Trees

This Bald-cypress tree is recognized as a State tree in Ohio and is located in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Spring Grove Cemetery is home to a myriad of graves, war memorials and drinking fountains, but what isn’t talked a lot about are their national and state champion trees. Champion trees are the largest recorded variety of each recorded trees in the state (State Champion) and continental US. (National Champion) Spring Grove Cemetery is home to over 20 state champion trees and even a National tree as well! The State of Ohio has a Big Tree program that actively searches for giant trees all over the state! They measure the trunk of the tree, it’s height, and something that’s called the average crown spread to determine which trees are the biggest and most deserving of the title!
