United States Customs Building

I visited a US Customs Building last summer in Charleston. Charleston was a major port for most of the United State’s history and still is. But it is also a major hub of cruise travel now. The building construction was starting in 1859, but was halted by the Civil War and finally finished in 1879. As a political science major, I nerd-ed out a little at being on the steps of a federal government building and at how old it was. I could imagine people back in the 1800’s reaching port Charleston and seeing that massive building as their welcome to America.
