Oak Alley Plantation

The structure is a two story plantation house with greco roman columns surrounding the wrapping balcony. The house was built in  1839 by Jacques T. Roman, a wealthy plantation owner, who owned slaves and harvested sugar cane and pecans. Yes the plantation and the house had enslaved peoples in the past, but from my experience there it is invaluable to learn about the history, slave culture, and slave life so we as a public can better understand history rather than hide and eventually forget.
