Old Fashioned Fire Protection

The 125-foot tower standing in the woods
View from the bottom of the fire tower

The Mohican Fire Tower is an old 125-foot look out for potential or actual fires. It was built in 1934 when the Civilian Conservation Corps were planting trees in the area to survive the Great Depression.  The tower was shut down in the 1970s because it was thought it was no longer needed. Even though it is no longer in use, but you can almost climb to the top still. The cubicle at the top is locked, but the stairs are not. One can see the entire forest at the top. It is worth the trek if you ever end up in Mohican.
