On the top of the the little Italy hill sits Guarino’s Restaurant, the oldest restaurant in Cleveland. Open in 1918, Guarino’s started as a poolroom, was a speakeasy during prohibition, and eventually got remodeled into the restaurant it is today. The owner passed down the restaurant to his only son, Sam, who passed on the restaurant to his wife and mistress to run together. His mistress, who still lives in the attic today, gave it to her children to run.
This charming restaurant is known for the back patio, and if you ask an employee, being haunted by Sam Guarino.
