A Show of Reverence and A Show of Wealth

The Dexter family mausoleum was constructed in the late 1800s with multiple levels to store the deceased in. Despite its complete appearance, it was never completed due to financial issues which is why the windows were covered by stone. The chapel did a magnificent job at adopting the gothic architectural style. It featured the iconic flying buttresses, arches, and stone that was so prominent in the famous, historic churches of Europe. The grand scale of the project mirrored the prominence and wealth of the Dexter family. Read more on the Spring Grove website.
