Bringing Art to the Midwest

In the Spring Grove cemetery Charles West and his legacy are showcased. West co-founded the Cincinnati Art Museum after being a flour mill operator. The museum is now a house to over 100,000 works of art, spanning 6,00 years of human history. It is one of the most comprehensive collections in the U.S. Midwest. West helped decide the official site of the museum, as a major donor he had a much say in where the museum was built. Charles is considered by many to be the founding father of the Cincinnati Art Museum. West died in 1884, two years before the official opening.

The monument showcases the co-founder of the Cincinnati Art Museum. It shows West sitting in a chair on the top of the monument. The lower part of his monument showcases four arts: architecture, sculpting, painting, and music.
