Built in 1869, the Dexter Mausoleum was built as as Gothic style building built for private family named after Dexter. The structure is located in Spring Grove Cemetery and is often mistaken as a chapel. The construction of the mausoleum was $100,000 which was a large amount during its time. Even though the construction was costly it still suffered from structural issues due to the materials it used (Sandstone) and never officially finished. As a result, the incompletion and the building has this dark and ghoulish look that has caused it to be considered “haunted”.
