Spring Grove’s Resting Justice

Salmon Portland Chase born in 1808 and died in 1873 was a man with many talents. He was a United States Senator, the governor of Ohio, the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, and chief justice of the United States up until his death. Fun fact: Our currency is green thanks to him! His sarcophagus and the graves of his family rest atop a hill overlooking Strauch Island in the Spring Grove Cemetary. Originally his body was interred in Washington D.C. in the Oak Hill Cemetary but moved to Spring Grove in 1886 via the railroad connected to the cemetery.
