The Vaccine Hero of Cincinnati

Front Entrance for the Vontz Center for Molecular Research where The UC Medical Center honored the accomplishments of Albert B. Sabin, MD, with the dedication of an Ohio Historical Marker on Thursday, June 19, 2003.

The Historical Marker honoring Albert Sabin celebrates his development of the oral polio vaccine, a groundbreaking medical achievement that has saved millions of lives and helped to eradicate polio from most of the world.

Sabin, the head of Pediatric Research at the University of Cincinnati, developed and researched the vaccine throughout his career at UC. The marker stands in front of the Vontz Center for Molecular Studies at the UC Medical Center, a leading center for medical research.
